Vṛttaratnākara

This manuscript preserves a significant Sanskrit treatise on prosody (chandaḥśāstra), the *Vṛttaratnākara* ("Jewel-Mine of Meters") composed by Kedārabhaṭṭa, a medieval scholar of the Bharadvāja gotra and devotee of Śiva. The text sample encompasses the opening invocations and the complete first chapter (*Saṃjñādhyāya*), which systematically establishes the technical nomenclature of Sanskrit metrics, including definitions of gaṇas, laghu/guru distinctions, and the twenty-six principal meters from gāyatrī to atijagatī. The manuscript exhibits notable scribal features including marginal corrections, interlinear insertions, and characteristic orthographic variants, while its archival markings (old no. 721, new no. 911, Section 17) and microfilming stamp indicate its documented preservation history within a colonial-era manuscript collection from 1891–1895.
